Salt & Vinegar Chicken Wings (Air Fryer)
marinate:
Can you say the BOMB these are seriously the BEST wings I have ever had, EVER! And they are so dang easy. Toss your wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder then place them in gallon zip loc bags and cover with apple cider vinegar, I like to use the organic, raw, and unfiltered. Add red pepper flakes and chili powder. Feel free to add more spice if you like! You MUST marinate overnight or at least 6-8 hrs, the longer the better!!!
cooking:
Now, to cook these we are going super healthy … the AIR FRYER! That’s right NO OIL. The key is working in small batches. If your air fryer is smaller like mine this could take all night! I was using the “standard” size Ninja with the basket and I had organic wings that had the wing with the drumette attached, so I could only fit 2 or 3 at a time. You must leave room so that the air can circulating well and achieve a crispy wing! The wings will take between 7-12 mins per batch to be cooked thru. As always, I am keeping it real and letting you know this is one you will have to watch! I like to flip them over after about 4/5 mins and just watch for color and crispiness.
tips:
if you are cooking more than one batch I highly suggest turning your oven on low, apx 250 and lining a rimmed cookie sheet or casserole dish with parchment paper or paper towels. As the wings cook move them to the preheated oven and DO NOT COVER. I made the mistake of covering them with foil on a plate and they actually steamed themselves and were not as crispy! So, learn from my mistakes! Need a healthy side to serve check out my Shaved Brussels Sprouts Slaw
recipe:
Let’s talk about the recipe, shall we? There are no exact measurments. I know this throws some of you off so here’s my rule of thumb. Sprikle wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place wings in a gallon freezer bag and fill about 1/2 the bag with apple cider vinegar, 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes and 1 teaspoon of chili powder. Chili powder adds tons of flavor, not heat. And have you seen the Chili Lime spice from Trader Joe’s? I think this will be what I trynext!! The package of wings I bought filled two gallon size bags.
Air Fryer Salt & Vinegar Chicken Wings
Equipment
- air fryer
Ingredients
- 5 lbs chicken wings
- salt, pepper, garlic powder
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 tsp chii powder*
- couple dashes of hot sauce optional
Instructions
- Season both sides of wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place wings in gallon size freezer bags, fill each bag about half way with apple cider vinegar. Add apx 1/2 t of red pepper flakes, 1 t chili powder, and if using a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce. Remove as much air from bag and add more vinegar if you need. Marinate at minimun 6-8 hours, I think the longer you allow to steep in the vinegar spice mixture the better, up to 48 hrs. Work in batches leaving room for air to circulate, preheat a warm oven 250, line a rimmed cookie sheet or casserole dish with parchment. Place cooked wings in warm oven and DO NOT cover!! You don't want them to steam themselves! Depending on the size and power of your air fryer it will take 7-12 mins to cook each batch. I like to flip after 4-5 mins to get a really nice crisp all over. You'll have to watch them to know what is the right timing for your air fryer.
